I think the athlete's refusal to stand for the National Anthem sparked intense debate because America is a country that is brought together by all of the immigrants that have moved here and the National Anthem holds us together. I agree with Colin Kaepernick's protest because the people need to have their attention to the discrimination and the abusive nature of the police. The people try to ignore the things that do not involve them but when a celebrity brings the problem to them they get mad at him for being un-American. The problems that he brought up were real world problems that need attending to.

I do not support Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the National Anthem and I consider him un-American. If he can not take pride in his country than he has no reason to be here. He is disrespecting tons of people who fought for his freedom overseas and is disrespecting his right to live in a country where you don't have to worry about being judged or discriminated.

I have a particularly unbiased approach to this debate. I completely understand both sides. I think that people should definitely stand and put their hands over their heart during the national anthem out of respect and pride. But I also see why he chose not to. He doesn't want to show respect for a country that shows racial injustice or police brutality. He protested in the most nonviolent way he could. So i can see both sides of this argument.

Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel during our countries National Anthem has sparked seriously debatable topics but was his behavior truly appropriate. I believe that Colin is disrespected our country so much when he first knelled down during the National Anthem and people will say it was just his right to do what he wants but he was given those rights by the same people he stood against when he first knelled down in front of an army veteran (Nate Boyer). Colin has also claimed he has been a victim of racist remarks and say that's why he kneels but I don't think that $11 million a year can be considered a victim. He is also agreeing with the black lives matter program but what he is forgetting is that all live matter especially the lives of the people that fight every day for his right to do what he wants and that's why he should be made to stand during the National Anthem instead of being told to do what you want.

Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel during the National Anthem is a depatable topic in the country. I personally believe that his decision to kneel is not acceptable because the flag is what shows our independence and everyone should respect that. Colin states that he has been a victim of racist comments and remarks, but I don't think that anyone would insult a famous football player with racism. He may have freedom of speech, but he should do that with respect and care

I don't agree with Colin. I think Colin has the right to kneel because he wants equality but I don't think disrespecting the flag is the way to do it because men died for us to have the freedom to have the anthem so I think it's disrespectful to kneel and not right. So if Colin wants equality and to stop with police brutality then he should at least try to use another way.

I think it sparked such a protest because people love their country and don't want people to disrespect it. Not standing for the national anthem is very disrespectful; in my opinion. I don't agree with his protest because when there is a song being played to honor our wonderful, amazing country you should stand to honor our country. If you don't respect your country and your home and your community, you shouldn't be in it. I disagree with what he did and don't think people should ever do that for any reason.

I think Kaepernick's refusal to stand sparked intense debate because standing during the national anthem has become a tradition. I do not support his decision because I think he is being disrespectful to the country and should stand no matter what you support.

I think that Colin Kaepernick sparked an intense debate because standing for the National Anthem has been a tradition scene 1931. Also the National Anthem represents freedom. People calling him un-American is something that I can agree with. Doing this means that he dose not care about the people that fought in the war for freedom. This is why Colin Kaepernick sparked an intense debate when he did not stand foe the National Anthem.

I agree with Colin Kaepernick because I believe we should all have the right to do what we feel is right. I don't think this makes Kaepernick " un-American", because he was simply doing what he feels is right. This sparked a major debate because everyone has different things that are important to them and different things they respect. I respect Colin Kaepernick's decision because I believe in standing up for what you feel is right (even if others don't agree with you).

I particularly see no right or wrong side of this debate. I understand where Colin Kaepernick is coming from, but at the same time, I disagree. Kaepernick was wrong for what he did. During the National Anthem, it is our duty to stand up and put our hands on our heart. Many soldiers died for us to give us this freedom. The flag represents us citizens and our country. Kaepernick must not be proud of this country and its origin. On the other hand, I understand Kaepernick's side of the debate. We should not be proud of a country that has people that are shooting police. He didn't want to stand and honor a country that oppresses black people and people of color. His purpose for this action was to make people think about what this country is coming to. At least he stayed subtle with it and didn't make a big scene. In my opinion, Kaepernick had the right to do what he did, but was wrong for doing it (If that makes any sense.).
