Family
I'm Leah Trahan, and I am the academic gifted teacher for the Gifted Resource Center at Erath Middle School. I was born and raised in Cow Island, Louisiana. I am the oldest of three children. I have a younger sister and brother that I adore dearly! My mom is a retired teacher and my dad is a retired construction superintendent and cattle farmer . Everyone says that I inherited my dad’s work ethic and I’m proud of it! I married my husband Nicholas in 2003 and we have two beautiful daughters, Katherine and Claire, and one son, John Nick. We call Maurice, Louisiana home :)
School
I attended Forked Island E. Broussard from kindergarten through eighth grade. From there, I went on to Kaplan High School. After graduation from high school I attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. I graduated from ULL in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. In December of 2009 I completed work towards my masters. I received a Masters degree in Education of the Gifted. In between my bachelor and masters degree I also earned my National Board Certification in 2007.
Work
I began my teaching career at Herod Elementary School in Abbeville, Louisiana. I served as a fourth grade teacher for seven years at Herod. In 2005 I was named the Herod Elementary Teacher of the Year. I was a member of the school technology team and loved incorporating technology into my lessons. In 2006 I was named the Region IV LACUE (Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators) Teacher of the Year. In 2009, I decided to make the move to a new school and became a fourth grade teacher at LeBlanc Elementary. During the spring of 2012 I was offered a position as a gifted teacher for the Vermilion Parish School Board. I immediately accepted and began teaching TAG (The Academically Gifted) at the Gifted Resource center at LeBlanc Elementary School. Although my classroom was at LeBlanc I serviced students from various schools throughout our district. In 2015 I was named Region IV LACUE Elementary Teacher of the Year for my work with students and integrated technology. By 2021 LeBlanc Elementary ran out of space and I needed to move. Erath Middle School graciously accepted to house our gifted program on their campus. My new classroom and the Gifted Resource Center is located at Erath Middle School. I have completed 19 years of teaching and I’m looking forward to year TWENTY!
Interests
|
When I am not teaching I enjoy watching movies (I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan), riding bikes, reading books, visiting our family camp on long weekends, and spending time outside with my family. When I have a bit of free time I also love shopping online, especially on Etsy! I love and appreciate the value of purchasing handmade or vintage items. Finally, I am a ULL and LSU fan! I enjoy watching all the games each season with our family and friends!
