We are off to an awesome start this year. We have officially started our Malala study. The younger group of students are reading "Who is Malala" by Dinah Brown while my older groups of students are reading "I am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai. Her story is so inspiring and a wonderful part of our "Be the Change" theme. She reminds us all of the power of using your voice, speaking out, and fighting for your dreams in a peaceful manner. With that said we have researched extensively information about Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Prizes themselves as well as have learned about other Nobel Peace Prize Laureates such as Theodore Roosevelt, Elihu Root, and Bob Dylan. We followed closely the announcements of all of the 2016 Nobel Prize winners in every category and even watched a video of the announcement of Bob Dylan as the laureate for the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature. In addition to all this we have read and discussed issues such as immigration, the Presidental election, and the crisis in Venezula. We took time to debate whether or not soda bottles should have warning labels, we spread kindness on campus by using chalk to decorate the sidewalk with positive and inspirational messages near areas where students load and unload in the mornings and afternoon, and we completed our first art project (abstract, krinkled paper project.)
